“Vikings,” designed by Michael Kiesling, is a strategic board game that tasks players with the exploration and settlement of new lands during the Viking Age. Each player leads a group of Vikings, seeking to claim islands for farming, establishing settlements, and acquiring ships for further expansion. The game ingenously uses a rotating buyer’s wheel for acquiring tiles and Vikings, where both the price and the actions available are determined by the wheel’s position. Players must balance the acquisition of new tiles, the placement of Vikings for optimal scoring, and the management of their resources to secure their position against rival chiefs. The objective is to amass the most points through settlements and controlling valuable islands by the end of the game, all while navigating the challenges posed by occasional raids and the strategic decisions of fellow players.
