“5211 Azul” is a card game that is a reimplementation of the original 5211 game, but with an aesthetic twist inspired by the popular Azul board game series. Designed by Tsuyoshi Hashiguchi and featuring Azul’s distinctive tile designs, the game combines simple rules with quick gameplay, making it suitable for a wide range of players.
The game’s title, “5211,” refers to the optimal number of cards players should play: five cards in the first round, two in the second, one in the third, and one in the final round. Players start with a hand of cards and, in each round, they must decide which cards to play and which to hold back, aiming to score the most points by having a majority of a color when the round ends. However, if too many cards of the same color are played, they “bust,” and no one scores for that color. The player with the most points after a set number of rounds wins the game.
“5211 Azul” is praised for its fast pace, strategic depth despite simple mechanics, and the beautiful Azul-themed art that adorns the cards, making it a visually appealing and engaging game for groups and families.
